Three brown boys, three brown boys, see how they run. They all run after their momma now and won’t slow down. We finally cornered these guys in order to get some pics of them not running. Here they are:
These guys just completed 3 of 4 shots in the puppy vaccination series. If you want one, we can microchip them for your and register the chip so if they ever get lost and found, they’ll be easier to return to you.
One of the pups we sold got lost on the 4th of July several years ago. He was on a camping trip and ran off scared of all the fireworks going off. Sometimes, pups are not used to war zone sounds so they must be conditioned to those loud noises especially if you want them to be a hunter. Anyway, their owners were so sad and looked a whole extra day for their dog, set up “Lost Dog” signs. They also left food and some of their clothes at the camp site in case their dog returned. They continued to return to the area as often as they could but could never track down anyone who had seen their dog. Finally, about a week later, when they returned to the camping spot their dog was laying there and smiling when she saw them. If you have never seen a Chessie smile, search some pics up on google, we are not talented enough to catch their great smiles but they really do smile.
Personally, when I was first starting out with my second Chesapeake after getting married over 30 years ago my lab and Chessie disappeared. Yes, I once had a lab because at that time there was no internet and it was nearly impossible to find a Chesapeake anywhere. A few days later I got a call from someone in a town about 60 miles away asking if I had lost some dogs. They had tracked me down somehow as the owner from the rabies tags which were attached to my dogs collar.
We set up a time and place to meet about half way and I will never forget the strawberry smell coming from the back of the truck when they opened the canopy to get my dogs out. Apparently, they had been given a bath with strawberry scented shampoo. Definitely, not the Chessie smell I was expecting. Now we microchip all of our personal dogs as it is required for OFA testing of the hips and elbows, and the CERF eye testing.
Oh, and the only reason they ended up with my dogs is because they found them wondering a logging road directly behind my house. They told me how they found them way out in the middle of nowhere wondering on a logging road. That’s where I live. The dogs were not lost and if the people who took them would have just left them alone I’m sure they would have come home. They were basically in their backyard.
Now, we have what we call a people pen which we built so our small children did not wander off into the woods and forget how to get back. The people pen is also very useful for our dogs and covers several acres around our house. The Chessies do an excellent job patrolling our gardens and orchard inside of the pen. Without them, I’m not sure my apple trees ever would have survived to bear fruit because of all the deer and elk in this area.
We have quite a bit of interest in these pups, but no one has completely followed through yet. If you would like one or even if you just have some questions, would like more info, or get on “The List” for future litters just contact us.
