North River Chesapeakes was established in 2022 as a continuation of Farnell Farm Chesapeakes. We decided a name reflecting the birthplace of our pups may be more fitting for our CBR specific website.  We consistently produce high quality dogs that excel as hunters and make great family pets. Some participate in hunt trials and field events as well as the show ring.

Rebel on an icy hunt

Rebel from a past litter at 9 months, half way through her first season and loving every minute of it. Her owners state that she is amazing, sweetest, most stubborn, and fun girl ever! She is very protective of our whole family and loves to be by our side wherever we go

Tikka-Chesapeake Bay Retriever with ducks retrieved after a good days hunt
Tikka at 1 year old.

Tikka’s turned out to be a great duck dog! One year old. Tikka came from a litter of one. He looked like a football when I found him in the barn. Never lacking food he’s filled out here as a 1 year old.

An update on Tikka his second hunting season confirms he knows his job well as a retrieving machine. His owners contacted us asking if they could share our contact info with others as many were asking where they got their dog.

Otto has Tikka beat by a bit. He’s the biggest pup I know of from our lineage. Apparently, if you feed them well the will grow. Here is what his owner has to say about him.

“He is suca good boy and very strong and huge 149 lb. He has some manners to learn but he is a sweet heart! “

Here is Moxie, participating in a Dock Dogs event. Her owners reported she just returned from a duck hunt in Oklahoma.  “She is still a machine and has never let her age show!”

Sit Drake. Thanks for the pose.

In May 2008 we purchased a male Chesapeake, whom we named Drake, from your farm. We wanted to share that we are very pleased with him. Drake has a wonderful demeanor, he is a great balance between a family dog (he’s the first to try to be a lap dog) and a hunting partner (he is always excited to go out and retrieve ducks). As any Chesapeake, he definitely has a stubborn streak but once he learns a skill, it sticks. I have had many dogs, while this is my wife’s first pet, and we would not choose any other breed of dog. He does well with kids and adults alike and has changed the opinions of several non-dog people who have come to appreciate dogs through him. He is playful and protective and we are extremely satisfied with his overall health and breeding. Whether through nature or nurture, Drake has adapted and taken on the temperament of our family.
