North River Chesapeakes, located in western Washington state, is a site specifically designed for those hoping to purchase one the Chesapeake Bay Retrieves for sale now or in the future. Beginning in 2005, North River Splash came from Utah and was later bred with Gunner’s Mate of Sekiu from Sekiu, Washington.
A continuation of the Farnell Farm Chesapeakes lineage, the dogs have participated in shows, “Dock Dogs“, hunt tests, as well as performed as outstanding hunters and family pets and guardians.
A healthy dog, with a great disposition and confirmation is always the number one goal. Excelling as hunters and family pets and guardians seems to come naturally. The breeding dogs are tested for DM, EIC, and PRA to ensure these debilitating traits are not manifested in any offspring of the parents. Since these are recessive traits, as long as both parents are not carriers of the trait the debilitating trait is unable to affect future offspring.
The foundational dogs of our breeding program have had their hips, elbows, and eyes tested once they reached 2 years of age. This helps us evaluate their potential in our breeding program. Additionally, the dew claws are removed so that if the dog hunts there is no chance of this extra digit, off the lower side of the leg, catching on some brush and causing a more severe injury. Additionally, the pups are vet checked, started on a vaccination series, and dewormed prior to heading home with their new owners.
The pups are exposed to as many new experiences and conditions as possible from birth to 8 weeks of age. While maturing daily, they explore our farm and experience life in the real outdoors. With 10 children of our own, some which have provided us with grandchildren, the pups enjoy lots of action with the little ones. This produces a pup which is near bullet proof and ready for anything.
